RBYC Racing News 14 12 2007

TWILIGHTS - This week was race 7 and once again we had a brand new winner. This time it was Sue Drummond's 'Folie A Deux'. Next week is the final of the Spring Series. With such good prizes from Line 7 Marine and fair handicapping we have had 7 different winners to share the spoils around - Girt By Sea, Stardust, Republica, Mirrabooka, Still Sweet Revenge, Super Freaky and now Folie A Deux. If you know anything about these boats and skippers they cover quite a range. To top it all off, the series winner, Spindrift hasn't won a twilight race. However, if Spindrift doesn't keep up the good work the series lead could easily change.

EXTRAS SERIES - RACE 4 Unfortunately SYC hasn't been able to accomodate us this Saturday afterall , so we will revert back to running this event from the RBYC Race Tower starting at 1355 hrs. Series leader is Sweet Dreams with quite a lead actually.

SHARPIES - Harry Tedstone ran the annual Sharpie Shortcourse series last Sunday. Numbers were down with only 5 boats competing and on top of that only 2 out of 5 scheduled races were completed before the Bay was overwhelmed by 30 knot South Westerlies. Series winner was Grant Nichol's 'Physco Therapy'.

2 HANDED - The same 30 knot South Westerly hit the 2 handed fleet pretty hard causing one boat to pull out with a ripped sail. This race was for the RBYC Frank Hutchinson Trophy as well as forming race 3 of the YV Port Phillip Two Handed series. Out of the 6 boat fleet, our own Girt By Sea won on PHD and AMS handicaps and also took home the Frank Hutchinson trophy as well.

ETCHELLS - Last Saturday provided us with another series winner - Mark Bulka's 'Critical Balance' winning the Footloose trophy. CB managed to overtake last weeks series leader Frequent Flyer which suffered from equipment failure and won by only a point from Jack's Hut. Meanwhile up North, the Audi Etchells Queensland Championships have been run and won with Jake Gunther coming in 5th out of a fleet of 36. John Bertrand came 7th & Ross Lloyd 18th.

The 2008 Nationals are being run out of Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron starting on the 11th January.

This Saturday the Xmas series begins and ends with just 2 races.

DRAGONS - It's a big day for the Dragons as their Spring Series ends this Saturday. This time Mark Woodland could take out the series from Chas and Tony. That would be one for the books.

JUBILEES - You guys are racing for the prestigious Harvie Linklater trophy this Saturday.  Sailing Instructions for the Huntingfiled Cup will be available from this website next week.

PURSUIT - The final of the Spring Series is this Saturday. The series leader is Roger Incledon's 'Rampallion' who incidently has not won any of the pursuit races this season.

CADET PRESENTATION - After Saturday's racing the Cadet juniors will be having a fairwell in the Member's Bar. Their boats are being shipped to King Island today for the Stonehaven Cup (Nationals). The Stonehaven Cup will be run by Harry Tedstone in Grassy, King Island from Janudary 2nd 08.

HEARNE'S HEROES - The Wednesday Afternooners have completed their Spring Series for 2007. Series winner was 'Hot Shot' skippered by Graham Noel. Best Starter was Gary Davison and team onboard 'Clipper III'.

ORCV COCK OF THE BAY - 26th December 2007. 18 boats from RBYC so far. Get your entries in by this Monday, 17th December 07. The fleet will be starting off Station Pier, Port Melbourne at 1030 hrs and proceeding down to Blairgowrie. One of the best vantage points will be from our breakwater when the fleet pass inside of our No.6 mark.

**IMPORTANT** YACHTING AUSTRALIA NUMBER - If you are entering any races anywhere over the Christams/New Year break and don't know your YA number or don't have one, you may be knocked back from entering. So don't wait - call the office now on 9592 3092.

Meet 'Bella', David Currie's new boat. She is a 60' Siminis & Voogd design, built by Indigo Yachting, South Africa. Alas, you won't see here until after Hammo next year.

Ken Karn's 'Karnival' has been sold and is now at SYC. Ken will be downsizing next year, perhaps an Adams 10. So if anyone else is considering a new One Design, a fleet of Adams 10 would be perfect for RBYC.

David Pyo has bought himself a new Catana 47 currently lying in Fiji.          Another Racing Member is upgrading to a Bavaria Match 35 and hopefully we will know by next week.

Got any other goss, send to sailing@rbyc.org.au
