RBYC Racing News 20 12 2007

TWILIGHTS - Well done to the skipper and crew onboard Still Sweet Revenge! First boat to win twice this series and wreck our one boat - one win policy. Nevertheless, Spindrift went on to win the series. That puts them in a commanding position to begin the Summer series and overall Season Aggregate resuming 16th January 2008.

Last Saturday heralded a number of aggregate winners:

Division 1 Spring Aggregate: 1st Reverie Alan Woodward, 2nd Audacious Greg Clinnick, 3rd Schuss Denis McConnell

Division 2 Spring Aggregate: 1st Under Capricorn Phil Bedlington & Andy Ward, 2nd Where's Wal? Roger Jepson, 3rd Island Trader Greg Rayner

Division 3 Spring Aggregate: 1st Reckless Rory Thomas, 2nd Magazan 53 Gary Rowsell & Nick McGuigan, 3rd Hot Shot Graham Noel

Combined Division Extras Series: 1st Sweet Dreams Rob Hurrell, 2nd Hot Shot Graham Noel, 3rd Reckless Rory Thomas

Combined Division Spring Aggregate Pursuit: 1st Rampallion Roger Incledon, 2nd Zardos Barry Davenport, 3rd Spindrift Stuart Lyon

Combined Division Wednesday Afternoon Spring Aggregate: 1st Hot Shot Graham Noel, 2nd Rampallion Roger Incledon, 3rd Conrad Ron Vandenberg

Dragons Spring Aggregate: 1st Lyla Mark Woodland, 2nd Amazing Grace Tony Moody & Chas Stanton, 3rd Tarakona Hugh Howard

That completes half of the 2007-2008 racing season. Between now and January 19th 2008 a number of events take some of our fleet away:

  • Sydney to Hobart starting Boxing Day
  • Melbourne to Launceston/Hobart starting 27th December
  • Jubilee Huntingfield Cup (National Championship) here at RBYC starting 28th December
  • Dragons National Championship starting 2nd January 2008 in Hobart
  • Etchells National Championship starting 11th January 2008 in Brisbane
  • Cadets Stonehaven Cup (National Championship) starting 2nd January 2008 at King Island
  • 29er Worlds starting 2nd January 2008 at Sorrento.
  • Sabot National Championships starting 27th December in Sydney.
  • Laser Asia Pacifics starting 14th January at Sandringham

There is no Club racing this weekend. But why not take this opportunity to register for the Audi Top of the Bay Keelboat Regatta & the Slam 1000 pursuit race.

NAME OUR NEW BOAT - it's now BLUEGUM!
The competition has been run and won, with the winning name being announced to a packed and breathless audience in the Members' Bar on Friday December the 14th. The new name, Blue Gum, was greeted with tumultuous applause.Blue Gum recognises that tradition plays a part in all major yacht clubs. She was the first Club rescue boat, built in 1943 and purchased in 1955. She was planked by J. Guiterrez HLM, and her first coxswain was A. Triggs HLM. Blue Gum performed many rescues and was recognised round the Bay.The winner of the competition was Peter Austin, the current senior coxswain of the boat.

LADY STONEHAVEN RESULTS 2007
The Lady Stonehaven Series selects the 12' Cadet team to compete in the national championship racing for the Stonehaven Cup in January at King Island. Click here for details...

RACE INFORMATION NIGHT - 29th February 2008
The next class will be on the Friday night 29th Feb 2008. Start time 7:30pm in the Olympic Lounge.These free education sessions are provided by one RBYC's most seasoned skippers, Phil Bedlington. Please feel welcome to attend. If you want to get into racing, but a little apprehensive, then this course is designed for you. Please come along.

VARIETY SPLASH 2008 - 28th Feb to 1st Mar 08
Variety Splash consists of a three day and two night rally on Port Phillip Bay and is open to power and sail boats, commencing in Waterfront City Docklands, with the first leg taking Splasher's to Mornington Yacht Club while enjoying entertainment and stopovers throughout the day and finishing with an evening of fine food, entertainment and great company.Click here for further details...
