SARAH BLANCK THE SAILOR
Congratulations to Sarah Blanck for her Gold Medal win at the Asia Pacific Regatta. Competing with 49 women from 21 nations with 10 of them being the worlds top Champions, Sarah took the series by a huge 21 point lead ahead of second place Sari Multala (FIN).
The 2008 Laser Asia Pacific Championships was held between 14th – 19th January 2008. The Regatta was conducted as part of Sail Melbourne with on water race support by Sandringham Yacht Club and with the Lasers using Sarah’s Club - Royal Brighton Yacht Club as a shore base.
Sarah will now head to New Zealand for the Laser Radial Women's World Championship in February with her head held high. We wish her all the best!!!
Sarah has also been selected to represent Australia at the Olympics in Beijing. RBYC and SS&CBC are jointly supporting Sarah Blanck in her Olympic campaign for the Laser Radial class. She is currently the only Victorian selected for the Australian Olympic team and although some funding is made available to team members from Yachting Australia it is no where near enough to conduct an international campaign necessary for success at Olympic level. We are holding another fundraising and would appreciate your support. Please click on the following Link further down on this page to get information on the fundraising.
Sarah Blanck is Australia’s most successful women’s single-handed dinghy sailor. She started her career at the age of 10 sailing a minnow then moved into Sabre and laser when she was 17. In 1995 was selected to represent Australia at the ISAF Youth World Championship in Bermuda where she won Gold. From then she won the Laser Radial Women’s World Championship in Morocco 1997. In 1998 Sarah changed to sailing the Olympic class Europe Dinghy for her Olympic Campaign to Sydney 2000 and narrowly missed out. Sarah then took a 2 ½ year break then in July 2002 Sarah started her Olympic campaign to Athens 2004. In September 2002 she won gold at the Europe Dinghy world championships in Canada. In 2004 Sarah best placed Australian at the Athens Games, with a fourth in the Europe single-handed class missing out by only 1 point. In 2006 Sarah won first major regatta at National Championship Brisbane.

LIBRARY NEWS
Hi everyone! and a happy New Year to you all. I hope you are having a great time sailing during the warmer months – but don’t forget the Library.
Due to the generosity of one of our members, I have some great books on better sailing techniques, tactics and strategies in racing and sailing for beginners, amongst many others. As there are over 20 books I won’t list them here but they are worth a visit to the Library to look at. Also another kind member has donated "Race Against Time" which again is a very interesting book and worth a look.
I am back to opening the Library from approximately 11.30 am until 2 pm on Wednesdays and Saturdays and would enjoy seeing you there – after all it is YOUR LIBRARY.
