INGENUE CRUISER PHD SERIES 2007-2008
Twelve boats lined up for the third and final race of the Ingenue Cruiser PHD Series 2007-2008 on Saturday May 26. In brisk 20 - 30 knot NW winds and flat seas, the crews enjoyed exhilirating sailing around 25nm course.
Shipping traffic in the channel provided a challenge for some of the boats slogging their way back from the Spoil Ground to RBYC#1. The blustery condtions took their toll on some boats with Ingenue breaking the traveller:
a minor disaster compared with Gusto's loss of mast in close proximity to the finish!
At the end of the day, Rampallion once again won on the day, followed by Adams Rib and Redline.
Congratulations to Roger Incledon and crew aboard "Rampallion" series winner with consistent classy performances and placings of 2-2-1. In hot pursuit, "Redline" with Mark Burton and crew aboard were runners up with placings
3-3-2 and Commodore David Bingham on "Mirrabooka" placed third overall with placings 1-7-3.
Overall, nineteen boats participated in the series and enjoyed the opportunity to participate in the longer races.
A perpetual trophy has been commissioned for the series and will be presented to Roger at Presentation Night.
We look forward to sponsoring the series again next year.
If you have any comments or input with regards to the format of the racing or series, please contact David or Rosie to discuss as we are keen to grow this type of racing at RBYC and encourage more boats to come out and join in the fun!

ASSOCIATES CUP
It is with great excitement, that RBYC Women announce the resurrection of the Assosciates Cup. First introduced at the club in 1980 as a response to the introduction of Equal Opportunity Laws in Victoria, this event recognised the opportunity for women sailors to have equal access to club facilities as male members. The winner of the Inaugural race was "Hot Prospect", owned by J.B.Searle. The Cup was contested as a Lady Skippers Race from 1980 until 2002 but then lapsed.
Following on from the 2007-2008 successful women’s sailing activities with RBYC Hearne’s Heroes Novice Lady Skippers Race, Dragons Lady Skippers Race and sixty RBYC women participating in the Yachting Victoria WISC series, RBYC women are rearing to go with competing for the honours in the club’s own Assosciates Cup.
We invite all boat owners and crews to participate in this event with the only proviso for crew composition to include a Lady skipper. This year it is to be held on Sunday May 25th with race commencing at 1000hrs to be followed by a traditional "Sunday roast" at the clubhouse.
To date we have expressions of interest from 33 boat owners and lady skippers, making for a great fleet. If you have not yet registered your interest as either a potential Lady Skipper, a boat owner willing to offer a chance to an aspiring lady skipper or the chance to be a crew member on the day, please contact Rosie Colahan (mail to davros@bigopond.net.au ) to become a participant in this fun event.
There are now four weeks remaining to organise on boat training as well as honing up on your racing skills at a theoretical level. As a member at RBYC, you are in the fortunate position to attend an excellent lecture series organised by RMYS in the lead up to the Australian Women’s Keelboat Regatta (AWKR) to be held over the Queens Birthday weekend in June. As RMYS is currently under renovation, RBYC will be hosting these lectures each Wednesday evening in May at 1900hrs at RBYC. These lectures are open to all club members (male and female).
Don’t miss out on this fantastic opportunity to hear excellent speakers cover the following topics:
- Frank Hammond – Sails and Sail Trimming
- Jenny Lidgett – Starts and Starting Tactics
- Barney Walker – Weather
- Speaker TBA – Protests and attending the Protest Room

We look forward to hearing from you all.
Womens Sailing.
A successful "wrap-up" dinner for the WISC was held at RBYC on Saturday night.
This was a fantastic occasion to celebrate the growth of womens’ participation in sailing at RBYC this season, congratulate the winners, and thank the boat owners, mentors and sponsors for their generosity and assistance.
The "de rigeur’ of racing days – Pink polos from the NBCF and grey caps, courtesy of our sponsor Patricia Laverty from Austwide Safety, was replaced with lots of glam and glitter. Highlights including pink feather boas among the Magazan crew, lime green undies with demure tutus among the Under Capricorn girls, pink glitter hats and leis worn by the Ingenues, and the naval dress whites sported by the winning team from Rampallion.
The competition between boat songs - themes and vocals –was nearly as tough as race days!
It has been a wonderful opportunity to share the enthusiasm and dedication of this group throughout the season.

THANK YOU FROM GUSTO
"Thanks to all the rescue, workboat, the tower and the members of Brighton who helped me when needed. They all did a fantastic job and without them it would of been a nightmare.
There was an army of people on shore to help clean up and cut away the damaged sections, they worked through rain squals and massive wind gusts.
It was so impressive to see everybody want to help.
Thank you. Brian Pattinson"
