HEARNE'S HEROES - Wednesday May 14 2008

This week we are expecting a bit more wind for a FLEET START at 1400 hrs. The Weather Bureau has issued the following forecast.

Northerly wind of 10 to 15 knots locally reaching 20 knots during the morning and at night. Waves mostly near half a metre, but locally 1 metre in the south during the morning and at night.

Last Wednesday saw a fleet of twelve yachts start the pursuit race in westerly winds of twelve to eighteen knots with the promise of more to come. Those skippers who opted for a smaller sail plan were disadvantaged as the weather failed to reach predicted strength.

Welcome to newcomers BOOTS, Merela Curtis and FLYING CLOUD, Wayne Gannon, and their crews, its good to have some new blood in the fleet.

The westerly course, which made a pleasant change and kept the navigators on their toes, was shortened to the required eight nautical miles to keep the pursuit handicaps accurate.

There was some excitement during the race with REDLINE, Mark Burton, protesting HOT SHOT, Graham Noel; later in the evening the protest committee ruled in favour of REDLINE.

CLIPPER III, Gary Davison, won the day two minutes in front of THUNDER, Tony Garvey, followed by FLYING FOX, Paul Woodman, twenty three seconds behind. All yachts finished within eight minutes of one another.

Another good days sailing.

See you out there!

Cerberus Race
Last Saturday 10th May was the last official race of the RBYC 2007/2008 Sailing Season. A total of 14 boats ventured into the light conditions, unfortunately only 8 boats were able to finish the shortend course in the allocated time due to wind being virtually non existant. Congratulations to Hotshot B67 who took out the competition in the light weather by just over 5mins on corrected time! click here for full results luckily all boats that entered managed to make it to RYCV in time for the BBQ including many of the jubilees and
