Hearnes Heroes

"WANTED!!! All those jaded working sailors who need a "mental health day"

once a month, come down and join the High Flyers on the last Wednesday of each month, commencing July 30. Fleet starts with optional extras. As there is no midweek Twilight sailing until October, this is a great opportunity for a monthly midweek sailing "fix", so come along and join the fleet.

We are keen to encourage more boat owners out onto the water and are looking for mentors to assist spinnaker novices in learning the art of kite flying.

If you wish to participate, contact Sarah in the office or meet in the bar around 1200-1230hrs.

Saturday:

It was a freezing cold morning and the weather looked promising, race management headed out to start the Etchells racing centre course and were prepared for the long afternoon ahead. The course was being laid and it continued to look as if a race would happen.

Race management postponed the start to ensure a good course was set, then the starting sequence began. Just before the start however the PRO looked up to find the Starting Mark had drifted. Then with a quick check of the wind it became obvious it was far too strong to proceed. With gusts around 30kts the race was abandoned, Tarni and Blue Gum headed for the heater.

Out in the tower however it was another matter with the bigger boats prepared for stronger winds. Race Management did however decide to pick a slightly shorter course so that the boast could be finished before any nastier weather came in. Congratulations to  Brian Cherry on Lena winning the pursuit race click here for full results.

Note from Andrew Palfrey:

To the RBYC,

Being a proud member of RBYC and having many friends at the club, I just wanted to invite anyone at RBYC that is interested to keep up with my progress in the upcoming Olympic Games. I am sailing in the Star boat, together with Iain Murray.

My blog is at
www.sailing-dog.com

Post-Olympics I hope to get down to RBYC to say Gday. It’s been a long time between drinks, as I moved to Sydney in 2002 to pursue the Olympic dream. I have not even seen the improvements to the clubhouse and grounds! I plan to be down there for the Etchells Worlds in March of ‘09.

Yours in Sailing,

Andrew Palfrey
