New Principle Race officer

We are pleased to announce that we have appointed Simon Dryden as our new race officer. Simon comes to us with a great deal of sailing experience having sailed for the last 45 years. He started his sailing career in dinghies in South Africa and moving to Australia where he began ocean racing The highlights for Simon have been competing in 18 Melbourne Hobart’s, 7 Sydney Hobart’s and 2 Melbourne Osaka’s and a variety of other ocean races around the world including the Cape to Rio.. He is currently an Ocean Racing Offshore instructor and Sea Safety and Survival instructor.

Simon’s interest in race management was sparked when he joining the ORCV committee and is currently the chairman of the sailing committee. In his time at the ORCV, he has implemented the TopYacht race management and online entry systems. This will be of great benefit to us, at Brighton as it is the same system that we currently using. Simon has had a lot of experience in race directing with the ORCV, including last year's 2 Hobart yacht races. The team that Simon was able to gather and manage brought great innovation to race management, with a record of 3 million hits to their website for the event.

Simon’s business career started in the retail sector as a franchisee in the House group which is a Homeware’s Retailer. He later became a Director for the Group and subsequently involved in a management buy out. Simon sold the business in 2005 and is currently a retail consultant.

Simon will be working with Harry for the remainder of the current season to ensure a smooth transition, please make him welcome to the club
