Racing News

Saturday Winter Pursuits (Race 6): Oh dear what happend? A big fleet fronted up but time and wind weren't on their side except the lucky 5 that managed to cross the line before the 3 1/2hr time limit expired. DNF's were then given out like they were going out of fashion. Click here to view results. Tip: Make sure that you do carry a VHF radio and have it turned on to Ch.77.

Pursuit Races: The Race Committee are trialling a new system whereby if you intend to fly an extra during the pursuit race, you no longer need to inform the Race Tower beforehand but you must radio the Race Tower before you finish the race if you flew an extra (i.e. spinnaker). This affects all club pursuit races until further notice.

Hearne's Heroes - The new 2009 - 2010 season is already off with race 1 of the pursuits but without any winners..actually no competitors..as a matter of fact, no race. Fawkner was registering 40kts and the Bay was a frothing white so it was decided to abandon it. Better luck next Wednesday for race 1 of the fleet starts. Enter here if you haven't already.

This Saturday: RBYC will be running a Centre Course for Etchells (Entire Winter Series), Sportsboats (SMS Winter Series) and Jubilees. First race starts at 1300hrs. Race 7 of the Costello Winter Pursuit Series will start at 1330hrs from the Race Tower.

This Sunday: Race 1 of the ORCV Winter Series will begin at 1030hrs. See the ORCV website for details.

Senior Presentation Night: The night is fast approaching. If you've won something last season, make sure you're there! If you weren't so lucky come along for a great night. There will be a band with the dance floor opening up at the conclusion of the night. Seats are now limited so call now with your booking or email sailing@rbyc.org.au to place it on your club account. Once the Bayview Room is full, extra dinning tables will be arranged in the Members Bar. Aim to arrive at 6:45pm in the Member's Bar until you're called in to the Bayview Room at 7:00pm for the commencement of the function. Dress code is black tie or lounge suit.

Yachting Australia:

Dear all,

As you may be aware, Yachting Australia recently considered amendments to the Special Regulations.  It was agreed that the proposed amendments be approved in principle and that the documentation be circulated to MYAs and key clubs for comment. Comments were to be sought over a two to three week period, and if no adjustments are required the proposed amendments become effective on 1 July 2009.

We have completed the public consultation process and are satisfied with the amendments as drafted.

Please be advised that the amendments have now been published on the Yachting Australia website effective from 1 July 2009. You can view the amendments at http://www.yachting.org.au/?21782m.

We would be grateful if you were to help communicate these changes by circulating this information as appropriate.
Kind regards,
Glen Stanaway
